A truly unique region in the north-west corner of France, Brittany is one of the most popular resort destinations in the country. Brittany's history goes way back to 1532 when it was united to the Kingdom of France. Prior to this it existed as its own Kingdom and a Duchy. As you can tell by its name, Brittany was referred to as the lesser Britain and is still considered one of the six Celtic Nations. Although their local language, Breton has declined considerably since the mid twentieth century, Brittany still remains a very distinct cultural region of France. I have had wonderful experiences there and have met many lovely, warm-hearted people. The gastronomy of Brittany is a food lover's dream, ranging from local vegetables, beans, eggs, and farm churned butter to their famous seafood, fish, galettes (buckwheat crepes filled with savory fillings), sweet crepes and cider. My representation is focused mostly on the Côtes d'Armor department, but there are four additional departments worth discovering. I hope that these photos make you want to visit!

A "blue" lobster or Homarus gammarus. This is most definitely one of the pride and joys of the Breton fishermen. The taste and texture are very different to the American lobster or Homarus Americanus. I have to say, the blue lobster reigns supreme in my books!

My utmost favorite meal to have when in Brittany: local lobster, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes from the garden and homemade mayonnaise. Simplicity at its best.
